My thoughts have been all over the place since going to school to work has been shut down because of COVID-19. I have suddenly become an "online teacher" using solely online platforms to produce, deliver, assign, and assess Spanish. In addition to all of this, I am finishing grad school. I am so close to the finish line but I am still so far. I am sad that my plans to finish grad school in Spain have been cancelled due to the pandemic. I am sad that all of my life has been turned into working from home. I never realized how much I enjoyed face to face interactions with students, colleagues, and cohort classmates. I do, however, enjoy the daily pajamas to the nighttime pajamas, access to the bathroom and refrigerator whenever I want, and have been enjoying meeting my neighbors due to the multiple neighborhood walks I take daily. I am also enjoying working from my home office which I have really never ever used before. I am taking the weekend to not do any teacher work, and solely focus on continuing my Phase II writing. I have organized my thoughts and I am really looking forward to it all coming together. After this Blog, I'll to go on another walk in my neighborhood and I look forward to coming back and having a nice hot coffee and lunch before I tackle more of Phase II. Getting out in nature has been my favorite part of this time, and I am happy to enjoy it as much as I can, especially feeling the sun on my skin and actually taking the time to listen to the birds chirping.
It is odd to think we are online teachers. I have been doing google videos like we did with our class. The need the visual to see we are are still here. I have been very inside my house. I did go for a drive. I didn't go anywhere just had the windows open and hopped on and off the highway(so silly). Next time I'll walk!
ReplyDeleteThere is a certain sense of freedom of movement when we teach from home that we definitely don't get in the classroom. It's odd, but I feel like if moving forward we did distance learning one day per week, that might actually be good for a lot of us. I miss my students of course, but I could see Friday being a work from home day that might actually benefit some people.
